Because it was founded by a known con-man - Joseph Smith (look it up).

Because that same con-man’s first wife (and he had many) left his church because it had no place for strong women.

Because that church was founded on the notion of polygamy and privileging men over women.

Because women are not equal - and can not be equal - based on Mormon teachings.

Because they terrorize congregants by instilling fear - classic cult mentality.

Because the Mormon church is by all definitions a cult (look it up).

Because they didn’t allow Black men to hold the Priesthood until 1979 - WELL after the Civil Rights movement showed them it was no longer “acceptable” to discriminate.

Because women can still not achieve equal standing to men in regard to the “Priesthood.”

Because they continue to advocate aversion therapy to young folks expressing any kind of LGBTQ identity.

Because they continue to HURT all young folks expressing any kind of LGBTQ identity.

Because, rather than enter healthy debate with any of their detractors, they choose to excommunicate them for opposing their beliefs.

Because they told me that I was not good enough.

Because they told me that I was not worthy.

Because they have led people I know to consider suicide.

Because the pressure they create has led people I know to commit suicide.

Because they told me that I could not be who I was/am - or at the very least act on any impulse I had in relation to loving another man.

Because they are more concerned with appearances than with healthy lives.

Because they hypocritically denounce caffeine in coffee while gulping Diet Coke by the gallon.

Because they would rather gay kids commit suicide or delude themselves into a heterosexual marriage than openly embrace diversity.

Because I have seen the damage they have done to my own family.

Because I will never have relationships with many of my relatives because of “Mormon doctrine.”

Because their virtues and beliefs are bigoted.

Because the preach exclusivity rather than embracing the differences that make people beautiful.

Because they will never embrace some of my best friends in the world.

Because they want me to believe my sexuality is my own fault - or a test from God. And fuck that God.

Because they are self-righteous.

Because their religion has existed for only 150 years and they think they have it ALL figured out.

Because they are status quo.

Because they still show pictures of a white Jesus.

Because they don’t even embrace the radical precepts of the Jesus they claim to worship - white or not.

Because the religion is more science fiction than they allow the rest of the world to believe.

Because they operate under a veil of secrecy - and nothing true and righteous need do that.

Because they encourage their members to commit suicide over divulging the secrets of Mormonism.

Because they reenact fucked up versions of Bible stories in their temples.

Because they are pretentious enough to baptize those that have never asked for it - including Holocaust victims who died for their own version of religion and culture.

Because they will never admit that they are flawed.

Because they will never admit that they are wrong.

Because they are wrong.

Because I am not wrong.

Because I don’t want to believe anymore. And I don’t want you to believe anymore.

Because I am better than that.

Because I don’t want to believe anymore. And I hope that you won’t believe anymore.

Because I am better that. 

BECAUSE I AM NOT WRONG.
